How spending $4,445 on Fiverr Gigs helped make me $120,645.57
What’s up Banana Biters! Today I’m going to share with you how to get rich! Ok, I lied. I’m full of shit. If I knew the answer to that I wouldn’t be sitting here writing blog posts all day long. But what I will tell you is how spending $4,445 helped make me $120,645.57. How’s that sound?
You’ve got to Spend Money to Make Money
A few years ago I came across this website called Fiverr.com (with two “r”s). It’s a site where you can pay people $5 to do just about anything. At the time, I was doing everything by myself on my websites. I would write all the articles, shoot and edit all the videos, design all the sites, and even fix problems when they arose. I wanted to be in control of everything because I thought if I let someone else do it, it would get screwed up. I don’t know where I got that from, but I guess I have issues. Not anymore though…
Now-a-days, anything I don’t feel like doing, I first look to Fiverr. As a matter of fact, just last night I had a problem on this site where my “featured images” weren’t centered in my blog posts. So instead of researching and spending time looking through forums for code that may or may not work, I went to Fiverr and typed in “CSS wordpress”. The second guy on the list had a delivery time of 24 hours so he got my $5. I heard back from him in about 30 minutes and he asked for my login info. I told him I’d rather not give it to him and asked if he could just look at the code and tell me what to do. Another 30 minutes later he responded with a snippet of code to paste into my CSS. I copied, I pasted, and I fixed!
How easy is that? I would have otherwise spent at least an hour trying different codes that I found on various forums. I might have even messed up my site by posting the wrong code. But, for the low, low price of $5 (actually $5.50 now-a-days) my problem was solved with absolutely no effort on my part except for writing a short message to the seller.
On November 29th of 2011, I purchased my first Fiverr “Gig”. Since then, I have purchased 796 gigs (I know screenshot show 569 but I got lazy for a while and haven’t reviewed some of my completed gigs. That’s why).
So now you’re thinking, “ok great, you spent a butt ton of money on stupid shit, but how’d you make money with it?”, and you’re right to think that. Because I did spend a ton of money on some stupid stuff like “I will say whatever you want with my Fruitman costume“.
But I also bought some great Fiverr Gigs that saved me a ton of time and energy. Monetarily, I can show an increase around the same time I started using Fiverr, but time wise, there is no price you can put on what I gained. I basically gained my freedom back. Instead of sitting in front of the computer all day Sunday editing all the videos I shot that week, I got to enjoy the day with my family and friends while someone else was working on my tasks for a low cost. It was awesome!
Here’s a snapshot of my PayPal account. It only let me go back 3 years, but you can see the difference from year to year right around when I started using Fiverr Gigs.
So, you can see how business really started picking up after I learned about Fiverr Gigs. I think the main reasons I love Fiverr so much is because:
- it gives you more free time
- because you have more free time you can get more done and in return your business can grow faster
- I stopped doing the things I hated doing
- I could focus on the things I loved to do
- it helped me make $120,645.57 over the last few years (actually more because I didn’t go all the way back to Nov of 2011 when I started using Fiverr).
I’m not writing this article to just show you how absolutely cool I am, but I want to share some real value with you.
The Do’s and Don’ts for Buying Fiverr Gigs
- Don’t buy links – maybe they work, maybe they don’t, but I ain’t gonna find out. I like getting natural links by providing good content.
- Do get videos edited – video editing can be very time consuming and take up a lot of space on your computer. Find someone who’s good at it and let them do it.
- Don’t buy traffic – why would you want fake traffic anyway? Fake people don’t buy real things!
- Do get keyword research – I like buying a few different Fiverr Gigs when it comes to keyword research. A lot of times they have access to expensive tools that I don’t care to own…but I’ll rent 😉
- Don’t send spam emails – It doesn’t really work anyway and you’ll just be paying $5 to get into someones junk box.
- Do get designs – There are some REALLY talented people on Fiverr that do some great work. You just have to find them and then hope they don’t quit working.
- Don’t buy views, likes, subs, etc – The only time I’ll buy likes for something is if I need it for “social proof” but I never use it as a strategy for making sales.
- Do get a logo made – How do you like my Nine of Spades logo? Yup…got that puppy for 5 bones!
- Don’t be a dick to the sellers – a lot of these people are working hard for hardly anything. Be nice and give a tip for a job well done (especially if you want good work next time you use them).
- Do get analysis done – some of my favorite Fiverr Gigs are when sellers will check out my website and give me feedback. Honest feedback is priceless (or in this case, only $5)!
Fiverr Tips – Tips for Buying Fiverr Gigs
- Always check the sellers ratings and # of sales. A high rating with a lot of sales is usually a good indicator that the Gig is a good one.
- Always check the delivery time. There have been a few times were I found a great Gig but then realized I had to wait 12+ days for it to be delivered.
- Always save the best Fiverr Gigs you’ve found by starting a “collection” (clicking the hearts).
- After doing a search, don’t forget to switch from “Recommended” Gigs to “High Rating” Gigs.
- If you can’t find a Gig that fits your job specifically, don’t forget to check with some “Virtual Assistants” to see if they can do it for you.
