Million Dollar Ideas Tractor Trailer Ads

Million Dollar Idea #1 – Tractor Trailer Ads

Share me:

What’s up Dough Boys!  I’ve decided to start another blog series.  It seems this site is full of series.  It’s full of something, I’ll tell you that.

For this series, I will be giving you Million Dollar Ideas for you to have, use, and profit from.  You may be thinking, “how much is this going to cost me?”.  Good question.  It’s $FREE.99

That’s right, I’m going to share with you all of my Million Dollar Ideas that you can steal from me and start making bank.  Why in the hell would I do this?  Well, there’s a few reasons…

  • I need to separate myself from the rest of these boring blogs out here “on-the-line”
  • I’m reading Become an Idea Machine and truly believe Ideas are the New Currency
  • I’m too busy to add something else to my plate at the moment
  • I’ve probably talked myself out of it at some point already

Therefore, I thought, why not share with my readers!

There are a few things I want to mention before we get started.  First, I have not studied this market in depth, so please if you decide to jump in make sure you do your due diligence.  I don’t want some crazy mother fucker showing up at my door one day telling me that I made him lose all his money, his wife, and his sanity.  Because I do strategically place guns around my house and I will blast your ass!  So, study the market!  This is just an idea I had and tossed around my head for a few hours.  Second, if you do happen to get right by using this idea or any other of my million dollar ideas, please buy me a drink and we’ll call it even!  I drink double Jim Beam and Coke in a tall glass.  Thanks.

Alright, now that we’ve got that out of the way…

Million Dollar Idea #1 – Tractor Trailer Ads

So, how the hell did I come up with this idea?  Well, that’s a good question.  My father has been a truck driver for almost 30 years.  After I got done playing baseball I also became a truck driver.  That was a horrible idea.  I lasted 6 months and decided to focus my energy online.  But my father, he originally started off by leasing his own truck for a few years, then he drove for a company for 25 years, and just recently bought his own tractor trailer.

That’s me and my Dad with his new truck

He parks his truck and trailer behind a local business when he’s not working.  It just so happens that it’s on the way out to town from my house so I drive by it a lot.  The way it is parked is directly parallel with a main road in town.  So one day when I was driving past I thought, that thing (the trailer) would make a great billboard.  I’ll try to take a picture of it next time I see it so you can see what I’m talking about.  But that’s how I came up with the idea.

Now, like I said, I haven’t studied this market and am not sure if anyone else is doing this already, but what I was thinking was that you can be the middle man and sell advertisements to companies looking for more exposure, find independent drivers or even big trucking companies, and then put those ads on the sides of the trailers.

Here’s how I’d imagine it would work…

How to make a Million Dollars selling Tractor Trailer Ads

First, what are billboard ads selling for?  From my quick VERY QUICK research on this matter, it seems that to design and print a billboard image is going to cost around $1,000.  Billboards of course are selling for different prices in different cities, but it seems that they can go anywhere from $1,000/month to $3,000/month or more.  Usually they are contracted for a certain amount of time and a lot of the time have a minimum number of billboards the company has to commit to.

So, let’s assume that we can get $1,000/month per trailer ad.

What are our costs going to be?  Well, we won’t have a lot of overhead.  I’m sure you could run this business out of your home office.  You’ve got the drivers/trucking companies to pay to use their trailers and that’s really it.  Of course you will charge the ad buyers to create the ad and install it. In fact, I found an easy to install Vinyl Banner Kit specifically for trailer sides (see video below).  But you can subcontract that all out and charge them a little more on top for profit.  But let’s just say for sake of the example that it’s a break even on the ad creation and ad install.

So how much are the drivers/trucking companies going to want?  I really have no clue.  But, if I was an independent driver and someone offered me $500/month to have an ad on my trailer, I think I’d jump all over that.  Truck companies on the other hand will probably be a little more greedy.  Even if we give them 75% of the ad revenue ($750 in our example), we’re still coming out with $250 a truck per month.

Let’s do a little math…

Making a Million Dollars selling Tractor Trailer Ads

A business like this could possibly sell for 3 times its annual profits.  To make a million dollars we need to build a company that earns $333,334 annually.

So, if we’re getting $500/month on average for independent drivers (let’s assume they make up 25% of our fleet) and $250/month on average for trucking companies (75% of our fleet), then we’ll ONLY need 100 trucks!

Actually, we only need 90.

75% of 90 trucks is 67.5 (since we can’t have half a truck, let’s call it 68)

25% of 90 trucks is 22.5 (since we rounded up on the first one, we’ll round this one down to 22 to make a total of 90 trucks)

Do the math…

68 trucks x $250 = $17,000 x 12 months = $204,000

22 trucks x $500 = $11,000 x 12 months = $132,000

$204,000 + $132,000 = $336,000 annually

And if we sell that company at 3 times our annual, you’re looking at $1,008,000

That’s ONLY 90 trucks!  Some of these big trucking companies have hundreds of trucks in their fleet.  One big contract and you could have a million dollar business!

My Million Dollar Idea #1 – Tractor Trailer Ads

I have to say it one more time just to be clear.  I’m not trying to sell you on anything here, I don’t know if there are companies out there already doing this, I have not studied the market, and the above numbers may be WAY off.  I don’t know!  I just wanted to share this idea with you because I’m not planning on doing anything with it.  Please, do your due diligence before getting into any business venture.  I really do believe however, that this idea has high potential, low overhead, and can easily be a million dollar idea if there isn’t a lot of competition out there already.

Just remember, I’m going to need that double Jim Beam and Coke in a tall glass when you make your first million!  😉

It is a very good idea, especially for people who already own tractor trailers or other large , I know that there are companies, such as coca cola who will pay you to advertise them on your car, so i guess they would pay more for something even bigger than a car too.
