Case Study #1 – Profiting from a Niche Site (Part 2)
What’s up Dingleberries! Ok. Sooooo, I’ve might have jumped the gun a little bit in Part 1 of this case study. I don’t think the Baby Boomer idea is going to work. I know, I know…I was talking a lot of shit about how you just have to pick something and jump right into it, but after doing some research and thinking more about it, I’ve decided to switch up the Niche. Even though this is a market of 76.4 million, I’m going to have to pass.
The reasons why I’ve decided to switch are:
- Older people may not be as technologically inclined as us Millennials
- Baby Boomers really isn’t a Niche, it’s a group of people who do a lot of different things
- A lot of the angles I thought of to turn a profit would involve health care and I don’t want to get involved with dealing with insurance and all that bullshit
I wish I didn’t write that whole blog post before I realized that I shouldn’t go that route. Oh well, you live and you learn. Hopefully those of you reading this can learn from this as well. Although you get a great idea, it may be a good idea to think on it for a little bit. I was just too worried I would talk myself out of it and I guess that’s what I did anyway, but I definitely think it’s the right choice.
Here are some domains I brainstormed incase any of you want to take over where I left off. The circled ones were ones I liked and the highlighted were the available of those. Feel free to use any of those as I didn’t pull the trigger on any.
So, what am I going to do for a Niche Site instead?
I thought about new borns (new baby tips, potty training, etc) but thought I would have a hard time writing about that. Then I thought about the pregnancy niche and thought it could be profitable. But then I realized that I know nothing about being pregnant and never will. These may be great niches for my wife to get involved in, but what the fuck am I thinking? So, finally I got my head on straight and decided to go with real estate agents.
My mother is a real estate agent, my sister is a real estate agent, I have 3 friends that are real estate agents, and my aunt is a real estate agent. I’ve seen them struggle to make money at times and realized that this is a huge market.
Researching the Real Estate Agent Niche
This time, before I jump right in, I’m going to do a little research. My plan is to:
- Identify the market
- Identify the key players/competitors in this niche
- Join their newsletters
- Study the social groups around this niche
- Come up with a plan of attack
- Brand my own site within this niche
Here goes nothing…
Identifying the Real Estate Agent Niche Market
- There are over 430,000 agents and brokers
- 84% of real estate firms are independant
- 92% of people now use the internet in their search for a new home (important to agents)
- Average income for a real estate agent is $39,000
Identifying the Real Estate Agent Niche Key Players/Competitors
After browsing around the web, here are the key players in this niche (I’m sure I’ll find more):
- Invest Four More
- Agent Marketing Tips
- Realtor Mag
- Showing Time
- Get 100 Listings
- The Real Estate Trainer
It’s getting late now. But before I head off to bed I’m going to join the aforementioned newsletters, check their social pages, and then tomorrow I will come up with a plan and start branding my real estate agent site. Stay tuned for Part 3 of Profiting from a Niche Site coming tomorrow soon!
