Sept 9, 1944 (WWII) a Navy Ship full of men were on their way to battle to help liberate the Phillipines.  A call came in from the U.S. stating that they needed a radioman and a cook back in the states immediately.  Ed Corcoran, a radioman, and my grandfather was one of five sailors who could go back.  But how would they choose?  They decided to cut cards and the man with the highest card would get to go home.

• The first man picked a 6 of clubs
• My grandfather was second with the 9 of spades
• The third man, a 2 of diamonds
• The fourth man an 8 of diamonds
• And the last man drew a King of Hearts

The man with the King was getting married soon so he wanted to stay to save the extra money for the wedding for when he returned home.  So, my grandfather, with the Nine of Spades, got to go home.  A week later the ship that he was on was sunken by a torpedo.  My grandfather survived because of the Nine of Spades.  It was the 9th month on the 9th day that the 9 of spades was drawn.

This site is a dedication to my grandfather who was in my life until 2013 when he passed away from old age.  He taught me many things and I’m sure if he were alive and young during these times that he would have been an online entrepreneur!
